Art Helps Healing Programs for Healing Environments

"Art programs in hospitals provide many benefits.  Scientific research proves that blood pressure, heart rate, and respiration can be positively effected by exposure to the arts, stress can be reduced, fears released, and communication improved.  Art expression also lifts patient and staff morale."

What is visual stimulation?

Visual stimulation as defined by Healthcare Art Consulting is the use of sight and perception to excite or rouse mental activity. We refer to artwork and art therapy as types of visual stimulation.

What are Art Helps Healing programs?
Healthcare Art Consulting uses the research provided by evidence art-based design and principles of healthcare design in order to create an inclusive visual stimulation program for patients, staff, and facility visitors.

We refer to our custom visual stimulation programs as Art Helps Healing programs.

What is evidence art-based design?

As defined by The Center for Health Design, evidence-based design is "the process of basing decisions about the build environment on credible research to achieve the best possible outcomes." Healthcare Art Consulting uses the principles of evidence-based design to create Art Helps Healing programs that incorporate artwork, therapeutic activities and artistic elements into the overall design of healing environments.

We refer to the process of basing decisions about artwork, art therapy and artistic elements on credible research to achieve the best possible outcomes for end users (patients, staff, physicians, patient supporters and facility visitors) as evidence art-based design.

Visit the EDAC website for more information on evidence-based design and the Evidence-Based Accreditation and Certification.

What is the process for selecting artwork for Art Helps Healing programs?
#1
Healthcare Art Consulting representatives meet with clients to discuss their healing environment whether a physician's office, oncology out patient facility, or community hospital. Discussions may also include architects and facility designers in order to better understand the healing environment design.
#2
Art Consultants then review floor plans and physically walk the healing environment space, if it is already constructed.
#3
Next, clients have the opportunity to create focus groups for facility users in order to discover their interest in artwork, art therapy and artistic elements.
#4
Then, artwork is hand selected by expert art consultants with training in evidence art-based design outlined by The Center of Health Design. Two options of artwork are selected for the client's custom presentation.

All Art Helps Healing programs are created based on research and design concepts of facilities. We focus on what's in the best interest of the inclusive healing environment, not the individual personal interest of decision makers involved in selection process.

#5
Finally, the client and Healthcare Art Consulting finalize the Art Helps Healing program for the healing environment and the Art Consultants start the project.
