Spotlight Artistic Solution Project at Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center at Dallas
Client Need:Artwork for new outpatient cancer center medical office building
The development process for the Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center began in May 2008 and construction began in April 2009. In December 2008, Baylor engaged Healthcare Art Consulting to be part of the project team. In fall 2009 Healthcare Art Consulting conducted focus groups with patients in order to determine appropriate artwork and the direction for artwork in the 460,000 square foot outpatient cancer facility.
One of the challenges for the Cancer Center project was the need to coordinate artwork and define each area of the building for all 10 levels which have different tenants, decision makers and facility use.
Also, Healthcare Art Consulting worked with multiple parties in order coordinate and complete the project including Baylor Health Care System, US Oncology, Duke Realty, CB Richard Ellis, Medco, and Perkins + Will.
Solution: Healthcare Art Consulting used various themes and mediums of artwork throughout the Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center to define areas for patients, staff and visitors.
On Levels 1 & 2 local photography images of Dallas/Ft. Worth are on a rotating display. In two story atrium, a suspended hand sculpted sculpture by local artist Jim Bowman is the highlight in gold, orange and red hues.
In the Chapel on Level 1, hand carved stone sculptures by local artist Eliseo and glass crosses by Robert McCandless are on display along side monumental glass features by Jon Wayne of Wayne Design Group.
